CaPITAL PUNISHMENT

  • Also known as the death penalty
  • There are 38 states with the death penalty. Includes Pennsylvania
  • 18 states without the death penalty. Most recently abolished: Maryland

CHURCH'S TEACHINGS

  • Capital punishment is unacceptable in most cases.
  • Exception:
  • Someone who is still dangerous after being held in solitary confinement.

WHY?

  • Only God has power over life and death.
  • It does not respect the dignity of human life.
  • States should use non-lethal means when sufficiently safe for society.
