THE VIDEO GAME MEDIUM

- Only difference between this and a movie is the input device.
-It is just like any other art only here the input device is different.
-it provides an interaction with the medium that provides simulation and self reflection however it was born at the wrong time....

1972 The Birth of the Video Game Medium

-The video game medium created by military and engineers for simulations.

-Raph Baer radio and television engineer invents Magnavox Oyssey

-Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney start Atari and release Pong.

-Overflowing Machines at the bar.

WHAT DOOMED THE MEDIUM

-Extra Money meant to shaping video games into a profitable product.

-Coin operation machines, jukebox, television, jump in.

-Turned into Profitable Gimmick

-Extra Money and turn onto consumerism


How the medium was held Back

Let's focus on getting money through the kids! 
-Business purchased it for to make money from idle customers.

-Publishers refused games that were not focused on formulaic gameplay.

-Flashy colors, easy and addictive, for only 60 sec

-The arcade room for kids became toys and time wasters.

-Pac man in 1980 1 billion in quarters.

VIDEO GAME CRASH OF 1983 

-Too many bad games

-They were copies or low quality

-ET made in 5 weeks and buried in the new mexican desert

-Commodore computer would destroy video games

-Nintendo released as a toy entertainment system

-Made seal of quality to prevent low quality games

-Mario 86 and Zelda 88 showed more Creativity in the medium.

-They can express themeselves through this medium just like they would in any other interaction however is the main reason you couln't have the experience otherwise
