CAPYBARAS

A CAPYBARA IS A VERTEBRATE

  • I know that a capybara is a vertebrate because it has a backbone.
  • And another reason is because I know because if you touch it, you can feel the backbone.

CAPYBARA'S CLASSIFICATION

  • The capybara's classification is a mammal.
  • I know because it has fur, a lot of fur!
  • They are different to birds because the capybaras do not have feathers.
  • And because some birds cannot swim and the capybaras can swim.
  • And because it is a mammal, because if it did not have hair, it wouldn't be a mammal.

CAPYBARAS ARE HERBIBORES

  • I know that capybaras are herbivores.
  • Because they eat river grass,leaves and drink water.
  • It is different to carnivores because capybaras don't eat meat at all.
  • And because carnivores do not eat plants like herbivores.

THE COLOR AND TYPE OF COVERING

  • The capybaras color is usually light brown.
  • And it's type of covering is fur.
  • And maybe sometimes their color is dark brown.
  • And I know that it's type of covering is fur because if it was hair-
  • It would look weird.

WHERE CAPYBARAS LIVE

  • Capybaras inhabit southern Central America and northern South America.
  • In both savannas and rain forests near ponds, rivers and lakes.
  • And it's habitat is usually in a river or maybe a park with a lake.
  • And mostly, they live in ponds by farms.

INTERESTING FACTS

  • Capybaras mate in water.
  • A constant source of water is important to capybaras.
  • Capybaras can live 8-10 years in the wild.
  • Did you know? That capybaras spend have day in land and half day swim in rivers?
