CARACALLA JOINT RULING

  • One of Caracalla's works was known as the "Campaign in Caledonia."
  • This act was when Caracalla ended all military activity, as Caracalla and his brother Plubius , were arguing and competing for power.
  • The competition for power was so aggressive, they considered splitting Rome into two halves under each ruler.

CARACALLA

  • Because of the ongoing competition, Caracalla would arrange an assassination of his brother; just short of one year into their joint ruling.
  • This would lead to Caracalla persecuting, and executing all of his brothers past supporters.
  • He would eventually order a "Damnatio Memoriae," which is destroying of all history, and remembrance of his brother. Meaning "condemnation of memory."

CARACALLA

  • He would be credited defeat in war against Alamanni.
  • He would go down as a failed ruler, with military defeat, unjust ruling, false persecutions, failed movements for the people, a terrible man for his killings, massacres, and persecutions he enacted on, and "the common enemy of mankind."
