METAMORPHOSIS

  • All species of carpet beetles go through complete metamorphosis
  • The female beetle lays her eggs inside or in a birds nest, and about
  • 100 at a time. The eggs hatch within 7-35 days. In both the larvae
  • and pupal stage, the beetles feed on feathers, silk, fur and wool.
  • Adults emerge in the summer or spring and thrive inside.

DEFENCES

  • They are able to find food almost anywhere.
  • They move randomly, so you don't know if you have gotten all
  • of the beetles.

HELPFUL OR HARMFUL?

  • Harmful definitely. But not in the way you might think.
  • They don't really help, but they eat away furniture,
  • and other things made of natural specimens.
