PRESENTATION OUTLINE

SIMPLE MACHINES IN CARS

  • Wheels-wheel and axle
  • Gear shift- lever
  • Pedal- inclined plane, lever
  • Seatbelt-pulley
  • Mirrors-in lined plane

FORCES OF A CAR

  • Weight
  • Reaction force
  • Driving force
  • Friction
  • Air resistance

FORCES

  • Gravity pulls down on the car
  • The reaction force from the road pushes upon the car
  • The driving force from the engine pushes the car along
  • There is friction between the road and the triers
  • Air resistance acts on the don't of the car

When a vehicle travels at a steady speed the driving force from the engine is balanced by air resistance and other resistive forces. The resultant force is zero

Most obvious is the effect when the car goes up a hill. Gravity applies an acceleration to the car that means it takes more energy to drive up a hill.
