PATIENT HISTORY

  • Woman was in third decade of life
  • Complained of vaginal bleeding
  • OB/Gyn ordered a complete pelvis ultrasound
  • Ultrasound done on Acuson S2000 machine with a 6MHz transducer
  • No labs done.

DIAGNOSIS

  • Subchorionic hemorrhage
  • Best evidence: same area as clot from previous ultrasound, crescent shaped collection that lifts the chorionic membrane, part of it is anechoic with a heterogenous collection of blood at the bottom
  • Measured: 6.2x4.8x1.9 cm

SUBCHORIONIC HEMMORHAGE

  • Most common abnormality seen on ultrasound
  • Pool of blood between the chorion and uterine wall
  • No known cause
  • Varying echotexture

TREATMENT

  • Placed on high-risk
  • No strenuous activity
  • Usually will resolve on its own
