CASE STUDY

MAJOR PROBLEM IN BANGLADESH?

THE WATER AND SANITATION CRISIS

THE WATER AND SANITATION CRISIS IS THAT IN BANGLADESH, WATER IS

  • Scarce
  • Has bad quality

LOTS OF PROBLEMS ARISE DUE TO THIS CRISIS, SUCH AS

DIARRHEAL DISEASES WHICH KILL OVER 100,000 PEOPLE EVERY YEAR

In 1993, high arsenic concentrations were found in the water of multiple wells in the western area of Bangladesh. If a person intakes lots of this, they can get multiple diseases and health problems. Among these are skin disorders and internal cancers.

When people do not have clean water, they resort to other, more unhealthy methods of getting water, such as drinking from dirty ponds/ ditches.
However, Bangladesh has made efforts to stop this crisis. In the 70's, around four million wells were placed, intended to be used as a clean water supply. These wells helped a lot, and the rate of death because of water- related diseases dropped.

I think that something the people should try Is taking rainwater, because studies have shown that it is actually very clean. I also think they should find clean streams, and take water from them and boil it. This way they can have clean water that they know is decontaminated.

I also think that the government should make more efforts to end this crisis. They could request a loan from another country and build water towers and things like that to make sure that every home is getting clean water. They should also start non profit companies that will sell clean water to families at very low prices or for free.
