BACKROUND

  • Born December 6, 1478 Died Feb. 2, 1529
  • At 16 he began studying In Milan, his information would later inform his future writings.
  • Son of a very noble family.
  • The school he studied in was humanist school of Giorgio Merula and Demetrius Chalcondyles
  • He also studied in a court. the court of Ludovico Sforza also in Milan

ACCOMOPLISHMENTS

  • In 1499 his father died and he left his studied to take his fathers place as head of the noble family
  • He wrote many letters to princes about his works with Cosmo gonzaga
  • Became an ambassador or the duke or urbino
  • Close friend Raphael gratefully painted a famous portrait of Castiglione, now at the Louvre.

IMPACT

  • He was a prominent renaissance writer
  • 'The book of courier' was his best writing. It impacted courier expectations and what a wife needed to do to help her husband.
  • He defined what we consider a renaissance man or woman today.
  • The book also spread Italian humanism through Europe
  • He himself was an influence to other famous writers
