THE CAUSES OF VIETNAM WAR

  • A belief held by America that communism was threatening to expand all over South-east Asia
  • In May 1954, the regiment was attached by the north Vietnamese
  • Before World War Two, Vietnam had been part of the French empire
  • John f. Kennedy was assassinated in November 1963
  • When Kennedy was assassinated there were more than 16000 U.S. military advisors in south Vietnamese, and more than 100 Americans had been killed

WHY WAS AMERICA INVOLVED IN THE VIETNAM WAR

  • The American administrations changed, the roles changed until it became an American led and financed conflict
  • The American advisors were sent to assist the South Vietnamese to train it's army
  • We sent troops over to South Vietnamese to fight North Vietnamese
  • In the 1960's the war divided the United States
  • In the early 1970's, a peace agreement was reached
