  • Belief that your country is the best
  • These ideas fueled tensions between countries

MILITARISM

  • Belief that a countrys military should be large and ready to strike
  • Country's had strong forces to fight with so they were willing to go to war

ALLIANCES

  • A circumstance where two countries support and help each other in war
  • There were two large alliances, and if you declare war on one, you declare war on all.

IMPERIALISM

  • Policy of extending a country's influence and power with force or diplomacy
  • European countries would try to conquer lots of land and this competition caused tension

TRIGGER OF WW1

  • Austria-Hungarian Archduke Franz Ferdinand was killed by a Serbian nationalist
  • Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia which was a Russian ally.
