Location/map of the country

  • located in the caribbean sea

region/map of the region

  •  made up of 3 islands, Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman
  • located just south of cuba and northwest of jamaica  
  • is considered ti be apart of the western caribbean zone
  • as well as the Greater Antilles

place/culture

  • they dance along the west bay road to celebrate batabano parade
  • they celebrate heritage days
  • they also just sit down and have fish fries

place/history

  • they are a british overseas territory  
  • Christopher Columbus discovered the cayman islands May 10, 1503
  • he named them Las Tortugas.
  • he saw numerous sea turtles on his travels there 
  • that is where the name comes from

place/religion

  • christianity is the most practiced religion
  • most of the local businesses, ports, and harbors are closed on sundays
  • influenced but american and english culture when choosing their religion

  • the lion represents england
  • the turtle is for the islands original name las tortugas
  • the pineapple is for the connection that jamaica and they share

movement/migration

  • population of the cayman islands is just over 52,000 people
  • roughly 20,000 of which are native

  • they get most of their money from tourism
  • and also by financial services
  • they gross about 70-80% of the countries GDP

environmental interaction

  • cayman islands is a huge tourism spot
  • many people like to swim with much of the sea life
  • such as sting rays, sea turtles, and just regular fish

fun facts

  • the 7 mile beach is actually 5.5 miles
  • they drive on the left side of the road
  • they are known as the "island that time forgot"
