CELL AS A CITY

CELL MEMBRANE (PLASMA MEMBRANE)

  • The cell membrane monitors and controls entry into and out of the cell
  • The police represent the cell membrane in a city
•We chose this because the police do not let in things that could be harmful to the city

CYTOPLASM

  • The cytoplasm is the fluid that fills the cell
  • The citizens and houses represent the cytoplasm
•Houses and citizens fill up a city like the cytoplasm fills up the cell

NUCLEUS

  • The nucleus holds genetic information for the cells
  • City hall represents the nucleus
•City hall represents the nucleus because it is the central area for the city

NUCLEOLUS

  • A part of a nucleus that makes the parts needed to build a ribosome
  • City's council represents a nucleolus
•A city's council represents a nucleolus because every part od the city runs through them

GOLGI APPARATUS

  • Aids in modification, packaging, and distribution of proteins
  • Postal service represents the golgi apparatus
•The postal service represents the golgi apparatus because they distribute important info

VESICLE

  • Isolates and transports specific molecules
  • Taxi service represents a vesicle
•A taxi service represents a vesicle because they transport people individually

MITOCHONDRIA

  • Supplies energy to the cell and has its own ribosome
  • Factories represent a mitochondria
•Factories represents a mitochandria because they provide energy and materials

VAOCUOLE

  • Large fluidfilled space inside the plant cell
  • A water reservoir
•A water reservoir represents the vacuole because it is a place where water is stored and filled

CYTOSKELETON

  • Supports and shapes the cell
  • Foundations represent a cytoskeleton
•Foundations represent a cytoskeleton because a foundation is a back bone of a building as the cytoskeleton is the back bone to the cell

SMOOTH ER

  • Makes lipids and breaks down drugs and alcohol
  • Recycling stations represent the smooth er in a city
•It represents it because recycling breaks down materials and makes new one out of them

ROUGH ER

  • Modifies proteins
  • Construction companies represent the rough er
•The rough er represents a construction company because they manufacture and package

RIBOSOME

  • Makes proteins in the endoplamsicreticulum
  • Food industries
The ribosome makes proteins which is could be considered food in the cell, within a city the food industries make food for the people to take

LYSOSOME

  • Organelle that contains enzymes
  • Trash collector
•A lysosome could represent a trash collector, it could represent a trash collector because the lysosome takes the undesirable parts and breaks them down

CENTRIOLE

  • Help chromosomes move during cell division
  • Cars
•A centriole could be a car because the chromosomes are people and the cars are helping them get to work, work represents cell division

CELL WALL

  • The cell wall is a thick rigid layer that surrounds the plant cell
  • It could represent the city boundaries
•A cell wall represents the city limits because it is what cuts it off from other places

CHLOROPLAST

  • Converts the energy of the sun
  • Solar panels
•It represents solar panels because solar panels convert the sins rats into energy and electricity for the city.

CENTROSOME

  • Divide DNA during cell division
  • Business franchises
•Could represent business franchises like Mc. Donald's or Burger King because they multiply and spread all throughout
