I chose a restaurant for my cell project because much like a cell, a restaurant has many different parts to make it work. I also know a lot about restaurants, and I knew that I could create analogies that would be accurate and descriptive.

DOORS
- When you walk through our doors, you are walking into a world of fun.
- Our new, sturdy doors help keep bugs and cold air out.
- The nice doors add a great atmosphere to the restaurant!
The doors are like the cell membrane. The cell membrane's main function is to keep unwanted materials out of the cell, but letting wanted materials in. The doors do this as well, because they let people in, but keep bugs and cold air out.

WAITERS/WAITRESSES
- Service is very important to us at Cell Bar and Grill.
- They help bring your delicious foods to your table.
- They are willing to help you with anything you need.
Waiters and waitresses are like the ribosomes in a cell. The ribosomes' job is to carry proteins from one part of a cell to another. The waiters and waitresses carry foods from one part of the restaurant to another.

HALLWAYS
- Need to get from one part of thw restaurant to another?
- Use our wonderful hallways!
- The hallways are wide and tall, so it's easy to fit through them with a group.
- You can get to all parts of the restaurant through the hallways.
- The hallways are very nice, and they add a pleasant. atmosphere to the restaurant.
The hallways in the restaurant are like the endoplasmic reticulum. The endoplasmic reticulum's main job is to transport proteins throughout the cell. The hallways are used to transport foods and people throughout the restaurant. The rough endoplasmic reticulum uses ribosomes to carry proteins, just like hallways use waiters (which are like ribosomes [see previous slide]) to carry food.

PANTRY/REFRIGERATORS
- If you make the first left off the main hallway, you will reach the pantry.
- It's stocked with wonderful, fresh foods that you can enjoy in our dining room.
- You can also see all of the foods in our refrigerators.
- We make sure that all food that we stock is the best it can be!
The pantry and refrigerators are like the vacuole. The vacuole's job in a cell is to hold food, water, and other materials that the cell needs. Pantries and refrigerators hold food and drinks for a restaurant.

THE CHEF
- If you go into the kitchen, you can meet our chef.
- He came up with most of the dishes on our fine menu.
- His food is enjoyed by everyone who tries it.
The chef is like the mitochondria. The mitochondria makes energy which is distributed throughout the cell. Chefs make food which is distributed throughout the restaurant.

SOUS CHEF
- After you've met the chef, you get to meet his assistant.
- The sous chef makes sure everything is ready to be brought to your table.
- He sorts the foods with your tickets, so you can get your wonderful meal.
- His other main job is helping cook the food.
The sous chef is like the Golgi Bodies. The Golgi Bodies distribute energy made by the mitochondria to the correct parts of the cell. The sous chef sorts the foods made by the chef to distribute them to the correct people.

ASSISTANT MANAGER
- If you want to meet the manager, you have to talk to the assistant manager.
- The assistant manager decides who gets to talk to the manager.
- He usually only lets complaints, job applications and tours through.
- Seeing him may not seem exciting, but he does have a wonderful personality.
The assistant manager is like the nuclear membrane. The nuclear membrane's job is to decide what substances can get into the nucleus, just like the assistant manager decides who can get to see the manager (who is like the nucleus [see next slide]).

MANAGER
- The manager runs the entire restaurant.
- He has to give any ideas an "OK" before they can be used.
- He approved all of our delicious meals.
- If you have any suggestions about the restaurant, you should go to him.
- He is always willing to help if you need it.
The manager is like the nucleus. The nucleus controls what happens in a cell, just like how the manager controls what happens in a restaurant.

SOLAR PANELS
- Cell Bar and Grill is environment friendly!
- Our solar panels allow us to use natural power in our restaurant.
- We pride ourselves on using natural energy.
- Our solar panels can be seen on the roof of our building.
The solar panels are like the chloroplasts. The chloroplasts use the sun's to get energy for the cell. Solar panels do the exact same thing for the restaurant.
