CELL THEORY PROJECT

By Emma

Cell Theory is a scientific theory which describes the properties of cells.

MULTIPLE SCIENTIST HELPED MAKE THE CELL THEORY

ROBERT HOOKE (1665)

THE FIRST PERSON TO DESCRIBE A CELL

ANTON VAN LEEUWENHOEK (1673)

MADE HIS OWN MICROSCOPES AND FIRST PERSON TO SEE BACTERIA

MATTHIAS SCHLEIDEN (1838)

STUDIED PLANTS, CONCLUDED THAT ALL PLANT PARTS ARE MADE OF CELLS

THEODOR SCHWANNY (1838)

STUDIED ANIMALS, WROTE FIRST 2 PARTS OF CELL THEORY

RUDOLF VIRCHOWY (1858)

WROTE THE 3RD PART OF CELL THEORY

THE CELL THEORY

  • All organisms are made of one or more cells
  • The cell is the basic unit of all living things
  • All cells come from existing cells

All organisms are made of one or more cells

The cell is the basic unit of living things

All cells come from existing cells

But, what IS a cell?

The smallest structural and functional unit of an organism, typically microscopic.

What did scientist know before cell theory?

Before Cell Theory, how did scientist explain life? Well, the most popular theory was Spontaneous Generation.

Spontaneous Generation is where humans would come from mud, dust and I preserved food

We now know that Spontaneous Generation is not how life came to be. And the person who refuted that theory was...

LOUIS PASTEUR

FRENCH CHEMIST, CREATED EXPERIMENT TO PROVE THEORY WRONG

By creating that experiment, Pastuer also solidified the basic steps of the modern scientific method.

CONCLUSION

  • The Cell Theory was an amazing discovery when it comes to cytology
  • (Cytology is is the study of cells)
