BANSHEE

  • Female spirit seen as an omen of death
  • Also seen as a messenger of the underworld
  • The banshee will wail when someone is about to die

BARGHEST

  • A monstrous black dog with huge teeth and class
  • Prays on lone travelers
  • Also referred to as a ghost or household elf

LEPRECHAUN

  • An old man in a red or green coat
  • Very mischevious
  • Spends their time making shoes
  • Hides their gold in a pot at the end of rainbows

SELICIE/SELKIE

  • A seal in the sea that can shed their skin and become a human on land
  • Male selkies often have affairs with unhappy women
  • It is said that female selkies make good wives

SALMON OF KNOWLEDGE

  • A creature known as 'the wise'
  • Ate 9 hazelnuts and fell into the well of wisdom
  • Gained all of the worlds knowledge

POOKA

  • Shape shifters
  • Often took the form of a black horse, goat, or rabbit
  • Could bring good or bad fortune
  • Could also help or hinder rural or marine communities

DONN CUPILGNE

  • The brown bull of Cooley
  • The object of queen Modb's desires
  • Was one of two people that got transformed into a worm and eaten by a cow
  • Then was reborn as a bull

FINNBHENNACH

  • The pretty white bull
  • Owned by king Allí
  • The other worm who was eaten by a cow and reborn a bull

DULLAHAN

  • A headless rider who usually rode a black horse
  • Carried it's own head under one arm
  • When the dullahan stops riding that is where a person is going to die
