Central Park was America's first major landscape public park.
The meaning of this park was to create a space that was "set apart from the struggles of everyday urban life".
Originally, the park was not part of the creators plans, but the site transformed in the 1930s, when the Croton Reservoir was filled in with water.
The site was originally called the Great Lawn and Belvedere Lake.
