Myth No.1 - Cerebral Palsy is contagious

Fact - Nothing could be further from the truth. Cerebral Palsy is not like the common flu and it is NOT contagious. It can't be caught simply by touching a child with Cerebral Palsy, or by spending time with them.

Myth No.2 - People with Cerebral Palsy are intellectually challenged

Fact - This is absolutely NOT true, at least not all of the time. Some people with Cerebral Palsy will have an intellectual impairment, but many of them won't. In fact, studies have shown that children with Cerebral Palsy often have the same IQ as children without it, and in many cases have a much higher IQ. Just because a child with Cerebral Palsy can't talk or communicate their feelings the same way other children can, does not mean they do not think the same.,

Myth No.4 - A person with Cerebral Palsy can never live independently.

Fact - This is not true - there are many different types of Cerebral Palsy and it affects every individual differently. In some cases the disability may be severe and the affected person will need full-time care for the rest of their life, but in many cases its effects are mild and will not affect the chances of an individual leading a completely 'normal' life. And, thanks to early intevention, technology and some very dedicated and caring professionals, even some of the more severely affected children will grow up to become a functioning, important member of society.
