The César Chávez National Monument
When was it founded?
The memorial used to be the administration where César used to work which was opened in the 1970's. After his death it was dedicated to him in the year 2004 as a memorial. On October 8, 2012 president Barack Obama established it as a national monument.
What does it include?
The memorial consist of a visitors center, a memorial garden, his gravesite, a museum and a conference center to observe his life's work.
Where is it located?
The memorial is located in Keene, Kern County, California. It's located in the ex-headquarters of the United Farm Workers and César Chávez's home. This memorial is 27 miles southeast of the city of Bakersfield, it's also located by the nearby Tehachapi Mountains.
Other information.
César was influenced by Martin Luther King, Junior. The memorial still houses the United Farm Workers of America. It is the 398th unit to the National Park System.
