WHAT IS CF?

  • CF is a progressive genetic disease that causes lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time.

People with CF causes thick buildup in the lungs and other organs. In the lungs mucus clogs airway and traps bacteria leading to an infection in the respiratory failure in the pancreas mucus prevents enzymes that allows the body to break down food

SYMPTOMS

  • Very salty-tasting skin
  • shortness of breath
  • Slow growth or weight gain
  • chest cold
  • Pain in the abdomen
  • deformity of nails

  • 25% the child will have CF
  • 50% the child will be a carrier but will not have CF
  • More than 30,000 people are living with cystic fibrosis
