PARTICIPATING IN ELECTION CAMPAIGNS

  • Important way to fulfill responsibilities of a citizen = help a candidate in their election
  • Ways to help: carry a campaign sign at a rally, give out info about the candidate, make phone calls to encourage people to vote for your candidate, etc.

Influencing Government

  • Another way to fulfill "office of citizen": persuade the gov. to take action in your beliefs
  • Age doesn't matter when influencing gov.
  • Express opinions in letters sent to representatives
  • Can also speak at city council or school board meetings
  • Make a group/organize a plan to help influence gov.

Serving the Community

  • Not all responsibilities as citizens connected directly to gov.
  • Although it's not a law, each of us still responsible for making our community a better place to live
  • Many ways to fulfill this duty (helping after school to tutor kids, picking up trash, etc.)
  • ^completing/fulfilling your role in the "office of citizen"
