  • Chad is 495,800 miles squared
  • Chad has a hot and tropical climate
  • Capital of Chad: N'Djamena
  • N'Djamena is the most populated city
  • Emi Koussi is the highest mountain in Chad reaching 11,302 ft
  • Some natural resources are: natron, petroleum, uranium, gold, and iron ore

POPULATION AND PEOPLE

  • The Arabs of Chad form a relatively homogeneous group, localized in the regions of Chari Baguirmi and Ouaddai, but mostly seminomadic. Other Muslim groups include the Toubou, Hadjerai, Fulbe, Kotoko, Kanembou, Baguirmi, Boulala, Zaghawa, and Maba.

CULTURE

  • Food:Chadian cuisine is the cooking traditions, practices, foods and dishes associated with the Republic of Chad. Chadians use a variety of grains, vegetables, fruits and meats. Commonly consumed grains include millet, sorghum, and rice as staple foods. Commonly eaten vegetables include okra and cassava.

FAMOUS CHADIANS

  • Sosthene Moguenara:Sosthene Taroum Moguenara is a German long jumper. She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, but failed to qualify for the final. In 2011 Moguenara won the bronze medal at the European Athletics U23 Championships in Ostrava.
  • Idriss Déby: General Idriss Déby Itno is a Chadian politician who has been the President of Chad since 1990.

INTERESTING FACTS

  • People of Chad use Kakaki, a long metal trumpet in traditional ceremonial music. The instrument signifies power and is always played by men.
  • Grains including millet, sorghum, and rice are staple foods of Chad.
  • For every 23,600 people in Chad, there is only one Chadian doctor available.
  • Chad is also known as “The Babel Tower of the World.“
  • The goat and lion are the national symbols of Chad.
