PRESENTATION OUTLINE

CHANGE BLINDNESS

ALEX SPEED AND HUNTER JONES

By definition, change blindness is a surprising perceptual phenomenon that occurs when a change in a visual stimulus is introduced and the observer does not notice it.

Change Blindness relates to a person's awareness, or the mind's perception of multiple activities occurring around its environment.

EXAMPLE

SIMONS AND LEVIN "DOOR" STUDY

OUR EXPERIMENT

  • Our experiment was similar, but we used a different method of distraction
  • We wanted to conduct this experiment to see :
  • How well an individual's mind perceives a confusing situation
  • How long it takes an individual to react to change
  • If the reaction occurs faster with known people

RESULTS

  • We had four participants:
  • Two out of the four realized a change had occured, one knew us, the other took longer
  • The other two had no idea a change had occured until we told them so (very confused)
  • Conclusion: Every human has their own personal awareness factor
  • The realization of change is higher for people who know the experimenter
