PRESENTATION OUTLINE

AREA

THE NUMBER OF SQUARE UNITS NEEDED TO FILL UP A REGION ON A FLAT SURFACE.

EXPRESSION

  • combines numbers and operation symbols with no equal sign. For example, 4 + (5 − 3) is an expression.

Multiple
the product of a whole number and any other (nonzero) whole number.

PLACE VALUE

THE NUMBER ASSIGNED TO EACH PLACE THAT A DIGIT OCCUPIES.

EVALUATE

To find the numerical value of an expression. To solve.

COMPOSITE NUMBER

A NUMBER WITH MORE THAN TWO FACTORS.

Factor
when two or more integers are multiplied, each of the integers is a factor of the product. For
example, 4 is a factor of 24, because 4 · 6 = 24.

Prime number
A positive integer with exactly two factors. The only factors of a prime number are 1
and itself. For example, the numbers 2, 3, 17, and 31 are all prime.

Simplify
To find the numerical value of an expression. To solve. In fractions, is to reduce to the lowest
term.

PERIMITER

The distance around a figure on a flat surface.

PRODUCT

THE RESULT OF MULTIPLYING.

COMPUTE

To find the numerical value of an expression. To solve.

Operation
A mathematical process such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, raising to a
power, or taking a root.

Greatest Common Factor
For integers, the greatest positive integer that is a common factor of two or
more integers. For example, the greatest common factor of 28 and 42 is 14.
