Chap 1 quote 2 pg 8

"The jews of Sighlet continued to smile."
You've been through so much suffering but you still manage to smile. I always say no matter where life will take me find me with a smile but if i was in a concentration camp for as long as they are getting beaten and talked down on, i'd probably forget how to smile. It's still amazing to me because you've probably seen family burned or slaughtered. You survived to this point and still smile just to know it would most likely get worst. You don't know if death is your next step or not but yet, you still continue to smile.

Chap 2. quote 1 pg 20

  • "Once more the young men gagged the women..
  • they even struct her."
You're a young man hitting a woman either older or younger than you. I wouldn't be able to think right after gagging or hitting another woman. The sad part is the women they were beating actually wasn't losing her mind. Her prediction was correct. How can you beat a women and not feel a little guilty at all after? Your guess would be as good as mine and the only the only thing you can do to save her is to pray for her.

Chap 3. quote 1 pg 24

  • "A lorry drew up at the pit and delivered its load
  • little children . Babies! Yes, i saw it-----
  • saw it with my own eyes.. those children in the flames."T
The fact of having to see dead babies would be everything having to do with unpleasant. How could you throw babies into a fire pit. The saddest part, is the infants don't even know what fate is coming towards them. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing i took someone else's life--- especially a baby. The babies barely have a mind of their own but yet their dying before they can develop a brilliant one.

chap. 3 quote 2 pg 27

  • "The Kapos beat us once more, but
  • I had ceased to feel any pain from their
  • blows."
It got the point where, it didn't even hurt to get beaten anymore. The beatings were so constant that he got used to them. You have to think to self that your basically a slave whenever you're about to get beaten.

chap. 3 quote 3 pg 31

  • "comrades, you're in the concentration camp of Auschwitz
  • there's a long road of suffering ahead of you
  • but don't lose courage."
The fact of knowing you're gonna suffer is mind shattering. You can't help but lose courage. You'd have to keep your head up. No matter what anyone would say to you, you'll still have to think about someone telling you that you have a long road of suffering ahead of you.

chap. 4 quote 2 pg 42

"Lie down on i! Your stomach!--- I obeyed."
You know you're about to get beaten and all you can do is obey what they have to say. Your near death and your living like that maybe the rest of your life.

Chap 5 quote 1 pg 51

"This camp is paradise today, compared with what is was 2 years ago."
A concentration camp was considered paradise at on point! That would mean 2 years ago it was absolutely horrible. You're being tortured today but still consider today a paradise compared to 2 years ago? That's crazy. To me it's crazy because, you've been in a camp long enough to see tons of people see in front of you and you still are but, at one point it was worst so you can only thank God that you weren't there then.

Chap 5 quote 2 pg 57

  • "They had put me in to a bed with white sheets.
  • I had forgotten that people slept in sheets."
They have been sleeping without sheets this whole time. He didn't have sheets for so long he forgot people used them, probably even forgot what they fell like. In the freezing cold sleeping half naked they still have nothing to cover them. If you've been without something to cover you for so long you'd most likely not even know the feeling of being cold anymore either.

Chap 6 quote

chap.7 quote 1 pg 73

  • "The days were like night, and the nights
  • left dregs of their darkness in our souls."
He only has darkness in his heart. The day were just night to him because even in the kight, their is still darkness.

chap. 8 quote 1 pg 78

  • "They didn't give us anything.... they said that if
  • we were ill we should die soon anyway and
  • it wouldn't be a pity to waste the food. I can't go o anymore..."
That'll be something that could destroy your little bit of courage you have left. It would be a pity to me... give the man one last meal if you think he's gonna die. Elizier stuck with his father that hold time and he's at the climax of his life and all he can do now is just wait for death to do part. He lost his whole family, The concentration camp destroyed a whole family and i'd feel alone but strong being the only survivor.
