Fossil

the remains or impression of a prehistoric organism preserved in petrified form or as a mold or cast in rock.

Unicellular Organism

an organism that consists of only one cell.

Mass Extinction

A mass extinction is a relatively sudden, global decrease in the diversity of life forms.

Evolution

the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth.

Natural Selection

the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring.

Speciation

the formation of new and distinct species in the course of evolution.

Adaption

a change or the process of change by which an organism or species becomes better suited to its environment.

Ancestor

an early type of animal or plant from which others have evolved.

Vestigal Organ

A rudimentary structure in humans corresponding to a functional structure or organ in ancestral animals.
