CARDIOVASCULAR, RESPIRATORY, AND DIGESTIVE SYSTEMS

LESSON 1: THE CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM

  • Your heart helps circulate gases, nutrients, and waste.
  • The heart contains the atria, ventricles, and septum.
  • Blood: white and red cells, platelets, and plasma.
  • Veins, arteries, and capillaries move blood around.
  • Disordes: murmurs, anemia, hemophilia, leukemia.

LESSON 1: THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM

  • Lymph is a clear fluid that fills body space.
  • Lymph nodes are small organs in the lymph stream.
  • Behaviors: eat well, exercise, and get checkups.
  • Problems: tonsillitis, immune deficiency, and Hodgkins disease.
  • Lymph nodes swell when a disease or illness is present.

LESSON 2: THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

  • Internal Respiration: oxygen from blood to cells.
  • External Respiration: oxygen from lungs to blood.
  • Throat to lungs: pharynx, trachea, bronchi, alveoli.
  • Diaphragm: muscles that separates chest from abdomen.
  • Problem: sinusitis, bronchitis, asthma, pneumonia, tuberculosis.

LESSON 3: THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

  • Process: digestion, absorption, elimination.
  • Eating Organs: teeth, salivary glands, tongue.
  • Stomach Tasks: mixing, storing, and moving food.
  • Digestive Parts: uvula, small/ large intestine, villi, bile.
  • Problems: indigestion, constipation, heartburn, gas, nausea.

LESSON 4: THE EXCRETORY SYSTEM

  • Organs: lungs, skin, large intestine, liver, urinary system.
  • The kidneys filter the nutrients and eliminate waste.
  • Excretory Problems: Cytisis & urethritis
  • Kidney Problems: nephritis, stones, uremia, and failure.
  • Ureter/urethra tubes: kidneys to bladder, bladder to outside.

This chapter was over the functions of the body. The three main systems are the cardiovascular, respiratory, and the digestive systems.
