SECTION 1

VOCABULARY

  • Holiness- spiritual trait that seeks wholeness in our relationship with God.
  • Virtue- the vigorous disposition to do what's good.
  • Sancity- to make holy or to consecrate.

The Holiness of God

1) Holiness is about our relationship with God.
2) Living a virtuous life is living a holy life.
3) The Church is holy because the Trinity is holy.

God Shares Holiness With Us

1) God's grace closed the gap between the infinite and finite.
2) Our holiness begins with our baptism.

VOCABULARY

  • Intercessors- someone who prays on behalf of someone else.
  • Patron Saint- a canonizd person asked to help/protect a place or group.

By Way Of The Cross

1) We grow in holiness by imitating the founder of our church.
2) All Christians are given sanctifying grace through baptism.
3) Individual sin can never take away holiness of the church.

The Holiness of Saints

1) Saints are models of holiness.
2) Saints help the whole catholic community be holy.

  • Immaculate Conception- Mary was conceived without sin.
  • Perpetual Virginity- Mary remained a virgin throughout her life.
  • Assumption- Mary was taken, body and soul to heaven.
  • Dogma- a revealed teaching so proclaimed by the churches Magisterium

1) Considered "Mother of the Church".
2) Considered first disciple.

  • Precepts- positive laws made by church authorities.
  • Reparation- making amends or compensating for sins.

Precepts and Purification

1) Precepts help the church and communities to be holy.
2) Guarantee the faithful in the spirit of prayer and moral effort.
3) Remind us that things are worth sacrifice.
