CULTURE

  • Beliefs and customs of a particular society or group.
  • All around the world, there are several different cultures.

ANIMISM

  • The attribution of a soul to plants and inanimate objects.
  • Some tribal people in Africa practice animism as their religion.

HINDUISM

  • The complex of beliefs, values, and customs.
  • Mainly practiced in India.
  • Worship of many Gods.
  • Hinduism is the main religion in India.

BUDDHISM

  • a religion represented by many groups (especially in Asia).
  • Professes various forms of the Buddhist doctrine.
  • Buddha
  • Buddhism is one of the oldest religions in the world.

JUDAISM

  • The religion developed among the ancient Hebrews.
  • Stresses belief in God and faithfulness to the laws of the Torah.
  • The people that practice Judaism are know as the Jews.

CHRISTIANITY

  • Religious belief in Jesus Christ.
  • Follow the word of the Bible.
  • Believe Jesus was the son of God.
  • Christianity is a religion based off the book of the Bible.

ISLAM

  • The religion of the Muslims.
  • A monotheistic faith regarded as revealed through Muhammad.
  • Prophet of Allah.
  • Islam is practiced in counties such as Africa, India and Asia.

SIKHISM

  • A monotheistic religion founded in Punjab in the 15th century by Guru Nanak.
  • Believes in reincarnation.
  • Sikhism rejects caste distinctions, idolatry, and asceticism

Urban

  • in, relating to, or characteristic of a city or town.
  • Characteristic of a city
  • The urban population is increasing.

Rural

  • in, relating to, or characteristic of the countryside rather than the town.
  • Characteristics of the countryside
  • This is a remote rural area.

Multicultural

  • relating to, or constituting several cultural or ethnic groups within a society.
  • Variety of cultures
  • interest in many cultures in a society rather than in a mainstream culture
  • Her blended family is very multicultural.

GENDER ROLES

  • Roles given to people in cultures based off of their gender.
  • Woman usually are seen as caretakers of the house.
  • Men are supposed to be the ones at work.
  • Some gender roles are more prominent in cultures than others.

SOCIAL CLASS

  • People having the same social,economic, etc status.
  • Example: the working social class
  • What you do or how you are "ranked"
  • They have the same social class because of what they do.

SOCIAL MOBILITY

  • The movement of individuals or groups in standing social position.
  • classes, ethnic groups, or entire nations
  • Commonly refers to families or individuals.
  • Education is a great motor for social mobility.
