PRESENTATION OUTLINE

UPPER CLASS

  • The people in this class go to prestigious schools.
  • This allows them to get a good career, and earn more money.
  • This allows them to buy luxurious items such as the home pictured.

UPPER MIDDLE CLASS

  • These are high income business people.
  • Most have a college education, and advanced degrees.
  • This allows them to send their kids to colleges like the one pictured
  • People in this class are politically and socially active.

LOWER MIDDLE CLASS

  • These individuals hold white collar jobs.
  • These jobs provide lower income.
  • Members of this class live a comfortable life, but work hard.
  • An example of a job is nursing, like the one pictured.

WORKING CLASS

  • Many individuals have jobs with physical labor.
  • Blue collar jobs are held, an example would be factory jobs as pictured.
  • Others hold pink collar jobs that are primarily with service.

WORKING POOR

  • These individuals work at the lowest paying jobs.
  • Such jobs include housecleaning, or day labor as pictured.
  • Many depend on government support.
  • Most are highschool dropouts.

UNDERCLASS

  • This includes families that are unemployed.
  • They work at low paying jobs such as the one pictured
  • Their income is public assistance.
  • They have a day to day struggle to survive.

WIC

  • This program stands for women, infants, and children.
  • This program supplies food to pregnant women.
  • This program also provides food to children under the age of five.
  • This program helps pregnant women in poverty get necessary nutrition.
  • I think this is a good method to help pregnant women. Picture shows healthy mom.

FOOD STAMPS

  • This is the transfer of goods and services rather than cash
  • This is the best known government subsidy. Picture shows appearance.
  • Poor people receive coupons that are used to buy food.
  • This takes care of their basic need of food.
  • I feel like some people might abuse this free money.

MEDICARE

  • Provides health insurance to those 65 and older.
  • It covers half of the health payments, on average.
  • This allows indivduals to take care of their health at a lower price.
  • The picture shows an elderly in retirement.
  • Also provides help to the disabled. I believe this is beneficial.

POVERTY

  • Poverty can lead to individuals being homeless.
  • This causes them to sleep on the streets.
  • They do not have necessary hygiene.
  • They do not have a good nutritional diet.
  • They do not have a proper job to survive.
