CHARACTERISTICS OF A RANCH
WHAT DID EARLY RANCHERS DO
Ranchers have there big family as the staff. They produce milk, meat, and fiber from there livestock. They have more then 4,400 acres to raise there livestock and brand them to show that they owned the cattle. If not branded another rancher can claim it.
When ranchers are getting there cattle some work on foot and some work on horse back. The livestock need food so they eat grass and crops and they could get disease. The disease traveled from cattle to cattle by ticks. Ranchers learned something called "dip" that killed chemicals to kill the ticks.
Another problem for the ranchers was to get there cattle to beef markets for money, this could of been very valuable during the civil war for food but transportation was a problem. So they killed the cattle for there hide. Then stores would make it into leather and sell it. The other parts were used for soap and candles.
