  • Puberty is universal because it id biological rather than culutral

  • More than 40% of adolecents have acne so severe that they seek medical advice and treatment
  • Teens should be prepared and taught about these things before it happens

UNDEFINED STATUS

  • The adolescent expectations ste often vague
  • It is often difficult for adolescents to determine their status
  • Some adolescents are teated as children and others as adults
  • Different people have different attitudes about adolescents
  • Teens should all be treated as adults

INCREASED DECISION MAKING

  • When children reach adolescence, they must make many of their own decisions
  • Ther seeme to be no end to the decisions that must be made
  • Some decisions are long term
  • Other decisions have far reaching consequences
  • Teens should be exposed to deciding careers early

INCREASED PRESSURES

  • Adolescents are faced with pressure from many sources
  • Parents generally make rules
  • Young people are under pressure to strike a balance between parents and peers
  • Teenagers want to be accepted y their peers
  • Teens should be place in drastic situations and learn to say no

SEARCH FOR SELF

  • Adolescents are mature enough to think about themselves and about what they want out of life
  • Teens sort through ir values and decide what is important to them
  • They set prioritie in their lives
  • When people know what they want, they are in a better position for adulthood
  • Teens should be offered as muchopportunitiee as possible
