Charles-Augustin de coulomb

By: Ellen Bowman

invention

  • he invented the torsion balance which allowed him to
  • to measure really small charges, & expiramentally estimate
  • the force of attraction or repulsion between 2 objects.
  • The data he gathered from his invention allowed him
  • to formulate his law- Coulombs law.

Coulomb's Law

  • Coulomb's law states that the interaction between
  • charged objects is non-contact force that actions over some
  • distance of separation. Every electrical interaction involves
  • a force that highlights these 3 variables: charge, charge,
  • and distance. There is always 2 charges and a distance between objects.

Background

  • Was born in France, went to school
  • in Paris. He came from a wealthy and well
  • known family. He studied language, literature
  • and philosophy.
