Tupper was homeschooled But he also took grammar school class . He studied at Horton Academy and learned Latin, Greek, French, and science. Before studying medicine in 1839-40, he taught for a while. He earned his medical degree in 1843 at the university of Edinburgh,in Scotland. He came back to Amherst and ran a medical practice and drug store. Later became the president of the Canadian medical association.
In 1846 Tupper married Frances Morse (A descendant of the founder of Amherst . They had six children . There names were Orin Stewart, Charles Hibbert, William Johnstone, Ema, Elizabeth Steward, and Sophy Almon. Tupper’s wife died in 1912 (62years after being married)
Charles Tupper had been involved in politics by the influence of the leader of the Conservative party, William Johnstone,in Nova Scotia. He was a family friend.Charles Tupper became leader of the party after defeating Joseph Howe during the election in Cumberland county. Charles Tupper only served as Prime Minister for 69 days
