APRIL 14, 1865

  • Lincoln an his wife went to a play at Fords Theater
  • The play was a comedy called "Our American Cousin"
  • They invited Major Henry Rathbone, Clara Harris, and General Grant
  • Booth shot Lincoln at around 10:13
  • Booth stabbed Rathbone in the arm

April 14, 1865

  • Booth got away and no one tried to stop him
  • Lincoln was transported to the Peterson Boarding House
  • Sward got attacked by Lewis Powell
  • Booth spent the night at Samuel A. Mudd's farm house
  • Clara Harris shouted out "He has shot the president!"

April 15, 1865

  • Lincoln died at 7:22 AM
  • Stanton started to direct Booths Manhunt
  • Mudd just found our that Booth killed Lincoln
  • Made Booth and Herold leave
  • Booth and Herold got lost and payed Zekiah Swamp lead them

APRIL 15, 1865

  • Stanton broke the long silence, "Now he belongs to the angels."

APRIL 16, 1865 (BLACK EASTER)

  • Early in the day Booth and Herold went to Cox's house
  • Mudd sent them to Cox a confederate
  • Cox helped them out by sending them to a barn
  • Later on a man named Thomas Jones came to help them cross the river
  • Thomas Jones was a confederate spy

APRIL 16, 1865 (BLACK EASTER)

  • Two men were seen crossing the river
  • They don't know if these men are booth and Herold
  • Booth and Herold did cross the river

APRIL 17, 1865

  • Lewis Powell was caught at Mary Surrat's boarding house and arrested
  • Mart Surrat was caught and arrested
  • Edman Spangler was arrested for holding Booths horse
  • Lieutenant Lafayette Baker is now a new manhunter
  • Booth and James Surrat were both shocked

APRIL 17, 1865

  • This day was said to be the most successful day in the manhunt

APRIL 18, 1865

  • Booth explains why he killed Lincoln
  • He wrote it in a date book
  • Union cavalry went to Mudd's house to question him
  • The Lieutenant knows that Mudd is guilty
  • Sooner or later Mudd would be arrested

APRIL 18, 1865

  • "Two strangers on horseback arrived near day break, one had a broken leg." Mudd said

APRIL 19, 1865

  • The most solemn day in America
  • The day of Lincoln's funeral
  • It was a grand funeral with lots decorations
  • Tens of thousands of people were at the funeral
  • Lincoln's coffin was brought in a horse drawn carriage

APRIL 19, 1865

  • Detectives searched Booths sisters house
  • They took every thing that had to do with booth including pictures

APRIL 20, 1865

  • In Maryland, two teams of detectives were planing a raid that would take Atzerodt
  • Jones witnessed cavalry riding out of town
  • Cavalry was riding on news that assassins had been spotted in another country
  • Mudd was questioned again by the cavalry
  • Booth and Herold were rowing in the wrong direction

APRIL 20, 1865

  • Atzerodt confessed all about the assassination
  • Stanton offered a $100,000 reward for any of the assassins

APRIL 21, 1865

  • Booth and Herold stoped rowing in Maryland instead of Virginia
  • Union cavalry were swarming the country side
  • Booth and Herold headed on foot to a near by friends house
  • Booth and Herold would have to hide in the low-line wetland
  • Booth shaved of his mustache so people wouldn't recognize him

APRIL 21, 1865

APRIL 22 AND 23 OF 1865

  • Booth and Herold climbed aboard a boat and rowed to Virginia
  • Herold went to Elizabeth Quesenberry
  • Booth couldn't go because of his broken leg
  • Quesenberry was an ex confederate spy
  • She gave them food and horses

APRIL 22 AND 23 OF 1865

  • Booth and Herold traveled on horse to Dr. Richard Stuart
  • Stuart refused to help him
  • Stuart did Not let the assassins stay at there house

APRIL 24, 1865

  • Soldiers came to Mudd's farm
  • They arrested Mudd for keeping booth at this house
  • Booth lied to the Garrett's at the dinner table
  • He told them that he was hurt in the war and union solders we're chasing him

APRIL 25, 1865

  • Booth slept in at the Garrett's
  • He played with the Garrett's children
  • $140,00 was now being offered for booth
  • The Garrett's still thought booth was a confederate solder
  • Booth was late he was going to leave hours ago

APRIL 26, 1865

  • Calvary patrol surrounded Star Hotel at 11:00 PM
  • Willie Jet was part of the assassins plan
  • Jet took them over the river
  • Calvary went to the second story bedroom and discovered that Willie was there
  • They seized Jet and started to question him

APRIL 26, 1865

  • Conger asked, "where are the two men who came with you across the river at port royal?"
  • Booth and Herold still in the tobacco barn
  • Cavalry sward the barn
  • Herold surrendered
  • He put his arms out of the barn first and the seized him

APRIL 26, 1865

  • Cavalry started to burn the barn down
  • Boston combat shot booth in the neck
  • Booth died soon after
  • Booths last word "useless."
  • Twelve day chase over

APRIL 25, 1865

  • The Garrett's locked booth and Herold in the tobbaco barn
  • Cavalry was on there way
