Fastest MAMMAL on land!!!

Physical Characteristics

  • golden brown with black dots all over
  • their colour helps them hide in bushes
  • weigh from 86 to 143 pounds
  • head and body grow to 44/53 long
  • born with blue eyes then change to yellow

Reasons Why Cheetah's are Endangered

  • 90% of the population has disappeared
  • declined in prey, loss of habitat
  • more high mortality of cheetah cubs
  • farmers kill them for attacking their livestock
  • main target for illegal hunting

Habitat of a Cheetah

  • live in dry places, like Africa or Asia
  • usually go a long time without water
  • open savannas and grassland areas
  • where they can see from a distance
  • need bushes and shrubs to hide for hunting

Diet and Predator

  • carnivore and eats mostly mammals
  • primarily eat antelopes, zebras, wildesbeets and etc.
  • uses their vision to hunt their prey
  • young cubs are hunted by lions and hyenas
  • adult cheetah's do not have any natural predators

Reproduction and Behaviour

  • female cheetahs reach maturity at 2 years old
  • females give birth to 3-5 cubs
  • mate with different partners through their lifetime
  • raise their cubs for 18 months
  • males live in small groups that they form
