Ionic Bond:
This bond occurs when two atoms of different elements bond and one element takes the valence electrons of another.

Covalent Bond:
This bond occurs when two atoms of different elements bond by sharing their valence elements with each other.

Metallic Bond:
This bond occurs when positively charged metal ions attract with the electrons around them.

EXAMPLES OF IONIC BONDS:

  • NaCl- Salt
  • CuF- Copper Fluoride
  • MgO- Magnesium Oxide

EXAMPLES OF COVALENT BONDS:

  • H2O- Water
  • CO2- Carbon Dioxide
  • NH3- Ammonia

EXAMPLES OF METALLIC BONDS:

  • Any metal can form a metallic bond.

Common Uses of Covalent Bonds:

  • They make up 99% of your body.
  • They make up water.
  • They help with the making of various foods.
  • The air we breathe is made of covalent molecules.

Where are covalent bonds found?
Covalent bonds can be found countless times all throughout nature and the human body.

Where are ionic bonds found?
Ionic bonds can also be found all throughout nature. They do not have to be created in a laboratory.

Where are metallic bonds found?
Metallic bonds can be found with all metal ions reacting in nature.
