Have you ever wondered why "mini" volcanoes erupt?

Have you ever wondered why baking soda, and vinegar reacts?

Get ready to learn the science behind chemical reactions!

Bubbly Drink

Ingredients needed:

  • Orange
  • Baking Soda
  • Glass
  • Water
  • Sugar

Why does it react like that?

  • The bubbles are made from the reaction between the acid in the orange and the bicarbonate of soda. These bubbles are actually a gas, just like in soda.

Rubbery Egg

Ingredients Needed:

  • A glass
  • Vinegar
  • An egg

Why does it react like that?

  • An egg's shell is made up of calcium carbonate. When this reacts with the vinegar-it releases carbon-dioxide. When, the shell is dissolved, the inner membrane is exposed.

Corny Goo a.k.a. Quicksand

Ingredients Needed:

  • Water
  • Cornstarch
  • Bowl

Why does it react like that?

  • When you roll it, it feels like a solid. If you stop, it will act like a liquid. The cornstarch particles float in water. When you roll, the particles are forced together. When you stop rolling, the cornstarch and water particles separate again. It behaves like...

QUICKSAND!

Ingredients Needed (Glow in the Dark):

  • Tonic Water
  • Corn Flour
  • Bowl
  • UV Blacklight

Clean Money

Ingredients Needed:

  • Coco Cola
  • Dirty Coins
  • Glass

Why does it react like that?

  • The drink contains food acids. When this type of acid reacts with the dirt on the coins, it "cleans" them.

Coke and Salt Eruption

Ingredients Needed:

  • Coca Cola
  • Salt

Why does it react like that?

  • When the salt goes into the bottle, it produces more carbon dioxide bubbles, causing all that fizz. In addition, when it starts to dissolve, the salt creates more bubbles, finally causing the eruption.

Homemade Explosion!

Chalk Talk

Ingredients Needed:

  • Chalk
  • Drinking Glass
  • Vinegar

Why does it react like that?

  • It is like the Rubbery Egg Expeirment. Chalk contains calcium carbonate. This mineral dissolves when it comes into contact with an acid like vinegar.

The Grand Finale...

VOLCANO!!!!!!!!

Really awesome, dangerous, and ambitious!
