  • Mainly in the carolinas
  • And parts of Georgia

CHEROKEE GODS

  • The sun moon and stars were all separate gods to them
  • Sun- they prayed to for abundant crops and good health
  • They had a new moon festival to pay honor to the moon

NEW MOON FESTIVAL

  • Celebrated at the first new moon in October
  • They believe that's when the world was created
  • They give gifts to the gods for a good crop year

WAY OF LIVING

  • 300-400 people
  • Winter round homes
  • Summer rectangle homes
  • Men hunted cleared trees for land and were warriors
  • Women did the usual but participated in government and were also warriors

CHEROKEE NATION

  • Divided into 7 nations
  • Long hair,paint,bird,wolf,wild potato,deer and blue
  • Once born you joined your moms clan or nation

CHEROKEE MEANING

  • "Speakers of a different language"
  • Ani-yunwiya
  • Means principal people

LANGUAGE

  • They migrated south from Great Lake regions
  • Spoke Native American Iroquoian
  • Had there own alphabet

SYMBOLS

  • They had a symbol for literally everything
  • Symbols were painted on skin as tattoos and usually told a story

CHEROKEE WARRIORS

  • They used gurellia warfare
  • They were savages
  • Army was made up of men and women
  • Painted themselves red and black to scare you
