CHEROKEE INDIANS

WHY OKLAHOMA?

  • The Cherokee Indians where forced of there lands.
  • The Indians wanted to move with peace, not by force.
  • There is also lots of land

CHEROKEE HOMES

  • The cherokee lived in villages normally by rivers
  • The homes were as strong and warm as a log cabin
  • They had 2 homes, one for winter and one for summer.
  • Winter homes were small and dome shaped.

FOOD

  • The cherokee were mainly farming people due to go soil and weather
  • Women harvested crops
  • The crops were cron, beans, squash, and sunflowers
  • Men hunted deer, wild turkeys, fish, and small game
  • Cherokee dished included cornbread, soups, and stews

HOW DID THEY PROVIDE FOOD?

  • Men hunted and gathered sticks, leaves and animal hide to make their houses
  • Women harvested crops
  • Women were also in charge of farming, property, and family

WEAPONS

  • Hunters used bows and arrows to kill animals for food
  • Fishermen used spears and fishing poles

TOOLS

  • hand axes for woodworking
  • Flint knifes for skinning animals
  • Wooden hoes for farming
  • Pots and baskets for storing corn
