BACK TO BASICS

TO BEGIN, MAKE SURE THAT A LIGHT SQUARE IS IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER.

NOW YOU CAN ADD THE PIECES.

  • Start with the rooks, and place them in the corners on your side.
  • After that, place the knights so that the rooks in the corners have knights at their sides.
  • Place the bishops to the side of the knights.
  • The queen gets the last remaining square of her color in the first row.
  • There is only one available space left in the first row, and that's where the king goes.

YOU HAVE FINISHED THE FIRST ROW, NOW MOVING ON TO THE SECOND.

THE PAWNS ARE THE FINAL PIECES. ALL OF THEM ARE IN FRONT OF THE OTHERS.

AVOID BEING IN "CHECK"

CHECK IS WHEN YOUR KING IS IN DANGER OF BEING CAPTURED.

WAYS OUT OF CHECK

  • There are three ways out of check:
  • 1. Simply move out of check
  • 2. Block the check with another piece
  • 3. Take the piece that is checking you
  • If you cannot do any of the above, it's checkmate!

SO... IF YOU WANT TO WIN...

... CHECKMATE THE OTHER PLAYER'S KING!
