The Chinese Exclusion Act
This was the first major immigration act in the U.S. It said that no Chinese immigrant could come to the U.S. or become a citizen for 10 years because the cheap labor workers were beating out Americans for jobs on the west coast.
PENDLETON ACT
- Government jobs would be given on merit instead of connections
- Workers could no longer be fired for political reasons
- Prohibited employees from having to pay forced donations
President Arthur was said to be quite the gentle man and it was rumored that he owned 80 pairs for pants
When he came into office he redecorated the entire White House and auctioned off the furniture
