PARTS OF CHIEF DIPLOMAT
- The president then makes the foreign policy of the U.S., with the help of advisors.
- The president is the face and voice of American foreign policy.
- Negotiates treaties as well as other agreements with foreign leaders.
TYPES OF AGREEMENTS
- Executive agreement: An agreement made with foreign leaders that does not require senate approval
- Executive agreements are not binding to future presidents.
- Diplomatic recognition: Formal acknowledgement of a government as legitimate
- Diplomatic recognition allows the exchange of ambassadors.
