Childhood Poem

Hunter Budz

The bell rings,
Like a gate being opened

Allowing the animals to run free for 30 minutes
Everyone is in a mad rush to get outside.

Heading to all parts of the playground
Like the stuff that kids climb on and slide down

But at recess I was allows found on the field
Playing football was my destiny

“Hut!”
At the sound of that word I was off

Running my routes and waiting for the ball
When my chance would come, I would not waste it

I would haul down the field leaving people behind
With the ball tucked tightly under my arm,

If I had to I would dodge and spin out of danger
The defense would fall or miss me as I rushed for victory

I would leap over the jackets that marked the end zone
Breaking out into a celebratory touchdown dance
