CONFUCIANISM

  • Confucianism: Belief based on the ideas of Confucious (section: Changes in Belief Systems Pg: 214
  • Confucious had principles that he emphasized on.
  • Sentence: One of Confucious's principles was "Respect family and older generations".

BUDDHISM

  • Buddhism: Religion based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama. (Section: The Spread of Buddhism Pg.214)
  • Buddhism spread to China, Korea, and Japan.
  • Buddhism had principles created by Siddhartha Gautama, one of them is: "Suffering is a part of life".

DAOISM

  • Daoism: Belief system where you seek harmony, nature, and your inner feelings.(section: Influences on Confucianism pg. 215)
  • Daoism started in the 500's in China.
  • Daoism has influenced China to seek harmony and nature.

IMPERIAL

  • Imperial: Being related to an empire. (Section: Building the Imperial State pg.223
  • Rulers of the Tang Dynasty made an imperial state.
  • In the text it states that the imperial state helped the Tang rulers rule more efficiently.

BUREAUCRACY

  • Bureaucracy: A divided government with departments.(Section:Chinese Government Pg.224)
  • The Chinese Government was like a pyramid.
  • Since the Chinese government was like a pyramid the emperor was at the top, then the advisers, then the bureaucracy.

GENGHIS KHAN

  • Genghis Khan: "Universal Ruler" (Section: A Great Leader Pg.232)
  • Genghis Khan united the Mongol tribes.
  • Genghis Khan would fight or kill all of his rivals to become a great leader.

KUBLAI KHAN

  • Kublai Khan: Ghengis Khan's grandson. (Section: The Mongol Empire Pg.234)
  • Kublai Khan defeated the Song control in 1279.
  • Kublai Khan was also a strong leader because he helped the Mongols control all of China.

MONGOL ASCENDANCY

  • Mongol Ascendancy: Period of Mongol control. (Section: Trade Routes Pg.236)
  • Mongol Ascendancy made traveling over land safe.
  • Traveling overland helped increase trade.

  • Marco Polo: Famous European trader. (Section: Foreign Contacts Pg.236)
  • Marco Polo was an assistant of Kublai Khan.
  • Since Marco Polo was an assistant of Kublai Khan, they went on missions together.
  • After a while he created a successful book about the missions.
