PRESENTATION OUTLINE

WINTER SOLSTICE

  • Winter solstice takes place on December 22 12:30 the start of winter! It is the shortest day of the year and the longest night of the year. They celebrate by honoring gods that they believed were responsible for the sun.
  • Sticky Dumplings Is the typical food that is served on winter solstice. People give deer shaped cookies as gifts. Families also get together to eat tang yuan (a sweet soup made of rice balls).
  • Many people tell stories and read poems some people also take ritual or purifying baths

MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL

  • Mid-autumn festival Happens on the 15th day of the eighth month it is the second grand festival. The Mid-Autumn festival is celebrated in the middle of autumn. At this time of year the moon is the roundest and brightest, with this festival they were commemorating Chang E.
  • Some of the foods they eat on the Mid- Autumn festival includes many different types of moon cakes. They sacrifice moon cakes to the moon as a offering to eat for the celebration

DOUBLE SEVENTH FESTIVAL

  • Double seventh day happens on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month it is known as Valentine's Day in some of the western countries. This festival is very important to the girls. There is also a legend about a love story between a cowboy and a fairy from heaven.Many young people are attracted to double seventh festival. The men give flowers and a box of chocolate to show their feeling or love toward the girls. The girls however do a lot of weaving and sewing of fabric.
  • There are nice dinners held and girls make delicious fruits

QINGMING FESTIVAL

  • Qingming festival is on April 4th or 5th this festival is to commemorate a man living In the spring and autumn time. A few of the main traditions are tomb sweeping, a spring outing, or flying a kite the unseals one are wearing willow branches on top of your head and riding on swings.
  • The foods for this festival they call cold day foods some of the foods include sweet green rice balls, peach blossom porridge, crispy cake, QingMing snails, and eggs.

LABA FESTIVAL

  • This festival happens on the 8th day of the 12th lunar month. The 12th lunar month mean "la" and the 8 means "ba" which is where the name originated. Laba congee originated from India some of the traditions for laba festival include growing crops and lots of harvest work.
  • The really main traditional food on the laba festival Is the laba porridge which is very time consuming.
