• Primary goals are to achieve peace
• Children must obey their parents

• Also spread to Korea and Japan

Taoism

ORIGINS/FOUNDER

• Grew from Chinese philosophies
• Founded by Lao-Tse
• Grew from reaction to spread of Confucianism and Buddhism

PRINCIPLES

• Made the Yin-yang symbol
• Balance and harmony
• Places great emphasis on nature
• Emphasizes 3 jewels, compassion, moderation, and humility
• Tao is a series of philosophical teachings to achieve balance

• Spread to places around china
• Used some in Buddhism and Shintoism
