  • Not too simple or too complex
  • Strong, accessible resources are available
  • Fact-based

Begin by Exploring!

Find an Interesting Topic

  • Browse the nonfiction section
  • Explore an encyclopedia
  • Pay attention to the world around you

Pre-Search

  • Gain background knowledge using an encyclopedia
  • Identify simple questions (short answer) and complex questions
  • Identify keywords to help you search

Tips

  • Don't be afraid to change your topic (but don't change it over and over!)
  • A good topic will have info available in quality websites, databases, and books.
  • A good topic will fit all the requirements your teachers give you
