PRESENTATION OUTLINE

CHORDATA

CHORDATES- VERTEBRATES AND INVERTEBRATES

TRAITS

  • There are 4 traits all chordates have in common
  • A notochord
  • A Hollow nerve chord
  • Pharyngeal pouches
  • An endostyle

NOTOCHORD

  • A rod of vacuolated cells encased by a firm
  • Sheath that lies ventral to the neural tube in vertebrate
  • Embryos and some adults.

HOLLOW NERVE CHORD

  • Is a nerve chord that lies dorsal to the notochord
  • Is formed from a part of the ectoderm that rolls forming
  • The hollow tube , later modified in the brain and spinal chord

PHARYNGEAL POUCHES

  • Form on the endothermal side between the bronchial arches

ENDOSTYLE

  • Elongated grove in the pharynx floor
  • To protochordates that may develop as
  • The thyroid gland in chordates

  • Vertebrates are animals that are members

WHAT ARE VERTABRETES

  • Mammals, fish, amphibians
  • Reptiles, birds, tunicates.
  • Are examples of vertabretes

WHAT ARE INVERTABRETES

  • Urochordata and chephalochordata
  • Are examples of invertabretes.
