After the reformation the Church became many....
Sometimes this split was about politics and power
For example the "Church of England" under Henry VIII (Anglicanism)
Sometimes the split was about biblical interpretation and how to live an authentic Christian life
16th century Puritans believed that the English reformed church (Anglicans) also needed reforming
Other groups also split from the Anglican Church
including 17th century Quakers
and 18th century Methodists
But the Church continued to "go and make disciples of all nations" Matthew 28:19-20
The first Christian missionaries arrived in New Zealand in 1814

Samuel Marsden of the Anglican Church Missionary Society preached the first sermon in New Zealand at the Bay of Islands in December 1814
Methodist missionaries set up their mission at Whangaroa in 1823
The Catholic Mission arrived in 1839 led by Bishop Pompallier
And so began 'the many' in New Zealand
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations"
